need a source for good lifters

I am about to begin a rebuild of my 1500 Spitfire engine. I've heard of problems with good quality lifters for the Triumph engines and wondered of anybody knows of a source of good quality valve lifters?

I also have quite a few from various engines and wondered if they can be reground.
 
There are places that can properly resurface lifters. Usually, they should have a slight crown. Sometimes they need to be rehardened.

As you say, new ones are available. I would never install lifters without first having a good machine shop check every one for a surface hardness of RC55 or greater & proper contour. It's just too easy for a soft lifter to slip through the production process. Same with cam lobes.

New lifters on an old cam may be ok, worn lifters on a new cam will cause a disaster. A worn cam with any lifter will cause early failure.

Most cams are ground with a slight front to back taper of about 0.002" which along with the lifter crown promotes lifter rotation to equalize the pressures & wear. I would definitely have a machine shop check the cam, old or new, for proper taper & surface hardness.

SpitBits has supplied high quality lifters in the past. Used them after I got some 'soft' ones from Moss.
 
I am going to have the cam reground to better specs.

I'm seeing a price of $12 each to refinish a lifter and I don't think that includes hardening it.
 
British parts Northwest a vendor that advertises here is where I got mine.They were AE brand,had 'em tested before install at Colt Cams here in Langley BC.They came back at 56 Rockwell,plenty good enuff for this guy.They've been bouncing around for 80K+ miles now and no problems.

Tell Leighton you saw his ad on BCF and I think he will give the Boss a "bit of brass" for the coffers.

That's where I bought all my engine stuff from so far on this build. Right now, they are the only dealer that says anything about the vendor or source of their stuff.

You have to be careful with some AE stuff now. Some of it is just repackaged stuff made in India.
