I need to know where to cut off the new piece of metal that I welded around where the top snaps onto. I left it sticking out over the door on each side because I did not know how far it extends out. The old one was rusted away so bad that I could not be sure.

What year Midget? - it varied

I have a picture of a woman with her top off. will this help?

How comes these cars rusted so bad. was the British metal not good?

Cause they are real old and have not been taken care of over the years. So many of them have sat outside forever.

I can get you a measurement later today. It is not a critical dimension because there is a chrome end cap there and the seal is cut to fit.

It is not as far back as I thought. It is only about 1/8 of an inch back from the edge. It then rakes back slightly.

OK, I'm gonna go with that. 1/8th inch back and angle a bit. Since I welded the new metal over the old and did not remove the old but cleaned it as best I could and applied por-15 to the old and hope it will be ok. Having new over the old will make it about 1/8" wider and I hope the top will still fit. That top ws not a year old when I decided to do the resto.
