Need a machine shop in N. Calif to bore for cam

OK, I thought I had a local shop to line bore a TR6 block for cam bearings. Well, as it turned out they could not do the job because the metal in the block where the old cam bearings were were hardened. Nor could they refer me to a shop that could.

Anyone have a lead on a shop that can do this work in Santa Clara, SF Bay Area, or Sacramento, or ugh, Southern California?

Hopefully I can find one before I see what a 356 Magnum does to a hunk of iron. (just kidding, well may be not)

Hi Ray,

You might have to find a diesel shop because of the length needed for the boring bar and small diameter needed to do the 6. I ended up having a shop hone mine to size because we could not find someone with a bar long enough to do it. Honing took a long time because they had to stop several times to allow the block to cool.

Ray, just curious- did you take your car to Emile's Sports Car Performance in Santa Cruz to find a machine shop?

Thanks guys, Greg uses either Carr or Marino's to do his machining, the same guys I do. Oh, if you are in the area, drop by his shop, he has a nice collection of LBC's. Anyway, I will drop by Emiles on the to pick up my block.

Marino's is a large, well equipped shop, they had a machine that could have line bored the block were it not for the case hardened metal where the old bearing surfaces are. I will ask them about honing.

It's looking like I will find out if the TR250 engine I have had inserts or not, or is suitable for a re-build.
