Neat old racing pictures

It appears that many of these pictures were taken at Pacific Raceways (aka Seattle International Raceways) in the 1960s. PR was late to open -- I think around 1964 or 1965. It's possible that some of these were taken in Vancouver or at Shelton Raceway (although they look too hilly for Shelton -- an airstrip course.)

I know the guy in the Porsche Carrera 6 (906)-- it's Wade Carter of Carter VW. He raced that car until about four years ago, when he was tragically killed in a helicopter accident. NICEST guy in the world.

I sent the link to my father, who was really into the Northwest racing scene, and even was an editor of Northwest Motor News. I have a feeling he'll recognize the Lotus XI, and maybe the Elite, as well as maybe the Formula Jrs.

Thanks for that clarification Sam... I did see a couple of the pictures labelled "Westwood" which I know was a Vancouver (B.C.) track back then

The guy who posted these is a friend of someone I just met recently, I've never met the guy who has this website.

Amazing to see that Porche Carrera 6 and to tale note of what appear to be stock VW steel wheels. Man, guys who raced those things had real guts.

Awsome old great pics !!!!

Great pictures James, Thanks for the link.

Anyone remember Charlie Kolb racing in SE US? I remember as flagman, being given special instructions on how to push his then new Carrera 6 if it should need it, so that we wouldn't push through the body. Different days; Jim Hall, Penske and the likes still running club racing.

Great stuff! That Ford GT makes me salivate, and great shots of the Alfas, I think the one with weird bodywork is a Giulietta TZ, maybe someone else will know for sure (#222).

I also like the shot of the sports racers going inside the Cobra, you can see the drivers faces with those open helmets.
Thanks for the memories, I must post some of my old Mosport/Watkins Glen stuff sometime.
Simon.

There's definitely some Westwood pictures, as well as Pacific Raceways in there. The one labled SSA appears to be the esses before the front straight at Westwood. I've driven Westwood, but only walked the Kent track. Both awesome, challenging tracks - Westwood was a great loss. I remember watching the Group 44 XJS downshifting into the hairpin at Westwood because this brakes had gone away - what a sound!!! Great old memories.

That's now called Pacific Raceways -- aka Seattle International Raceway (SIR.) I have tons of pictures of vintage racing over the last few years at that track. I've only been around it on one occasion -- in a 1929 Franklin (I was in the rumble seat!) It's a heck of a track -- lots of elevation change and a nasty decreasing radius sweeper coming into the main straight.

On this topic... I was chatting with my friend again regarding these pictures, he said his friend has a whole bunch more of these pictures - this is apparently just the tip of the iceberg. But that same old story, the guy is so busy with other photoshoots he still does regularly that it will take ages (if ever) to get to them. So many great vintage pictures out there... How many more hidden gems in people's collections?
