Hey Rick,
Fantastic journalistic effort in the latest Austin Healey magazine! Kudos. What a collection. Fun reading.

Thanks guys. Although I most often contribute to the Healey Marque, I was kind of drafted to do this in-depth feature for the July-August issue of the Austin-Healey Magazine and it was an opportunity I didn't want to pass up. I really enjoy Healey history and was glad to document what was going on in the sports car scene in the '50s and '60s that led to the creation of modified cars. I think a few long-time Healey folks will be surprised by some of the facts in the article (like Geoff Healey being a founding member of the British Hot Rod Association and the fact that 7 of the 50 100S cars had V8s in them at some point). And some of those period pictures of early Nasty Boys in competition are just too cool. I owe a lot of thanks to the Nasty Boy owners (some of whom are members here) that gave their time to talk a little bit about their cars that were featured in the article. Glad you enjoyed it.

Rick,

Excellent and very informative article, thanks for sending it to me. I have seen Peter Farmer's car in the flesh, beautiful work but I would prefer a 100 looking very stock with a suitable V8 installed. I had forgotten Charles Mathews is also a Nasty Boy as well as the owner of a 100S!

Good job on the Nasty Boy article. Every time, I see one, I take pictures.

Outstanding article. Thanks Rick.

Dave.

I'm still waiting for the postal service to deliver my issue...but I'm looking forward to reading it!

I estimate that S's got V8's to be competitive in USA club racing. They had great brakes so could out brake Corvettes but not match them on the straights. The S motors also blew head gaskets all the time because the heads were pure aluminum, no alloy, so too soft. Usually introducing a V8 gave its own reliability problems. Most results I have for them in the programs were DNF's.

rick, i got my magazine yesterday....what a first class job....thank you....
