early met "A" 1200cc 4:55 diff--engine really screaming at 55-----Later Met--1500cc 4:22 diff--a little better!!-
Some owners installed a little "hotter cam" duel carbs--3:90--great for hi-way--I live in the Oakland Ca hills--1 mile
uphill all the way to my house--A friend with a Met--3.90 diff--had to use 1st gear all the way up 10-15 mph all the way!
If you go to u tube and watch GOODWOOD VINTAGE RACES you'll see one racing and while not blowing the Jags etc off does function well.I guess it's limited to the anemic carb it came with~~! I think it can upgrade to 4 CR speeds, sprite disks and a header if not the bigger SU's It probably doesn't weigh much more then a sprite so with 1500cc's can stand a chance!
Broke a rear axle in my bugeye in high school and went to the junkyard for a replacement. Imagine my surprise when they pulled one out from the rear end of a Met.
Mets neither go nor handle decently but both can be remedied.
IIRC they can use BMC A series diffs, but a B series axle is more durable (Riley 1.5 also use the Midget A series diff with a 1500 engine but if you start hopping up the engine you can snap axle shafts). Check the Metro sites to see what the best front disc brake set up might be.
I owned a Riley 1.5 and seriously looked at putting one of my MGA Twin Cam motors into it!
