MGB NAMGBR Mark I, II, III, Designations

It seems that there is a confusion about the mark designations for our cars. I believe what the NAMGBR states is proper. They are a very respected authority on MG cars as most of us know. Their direct link with the UK and authorities there also confirm this. Everyone should check out the link below and scroll down to the MG 2006 winners list, click on it and take special note of the Mark designations for the classes and years of MGBs. I think you'll be surprised. You'll also recognize some of the winners. This also proves that some reference books are wrong.

Though many of us use MkI, MkII, MkIII, etc - don't believe MG ever officially used them....& I take things NAMGBR says with a grain of salt...they've been known to be wrong before but push their positions with the power of the organization....JMHO

Paul - if that MkII emblem is on your MGB, somebody other than the factory put it there!

Tony, It came from a CKD MGB in Australia. They and the overdrive emblems, photo enclosed, were placed on Australian built MGBs by the factory there. A friend in Australia found them, had them restored and sent them to me to display on my car. There's a little nick in the letter O and he told me they were made that way and that's how you can authenticate it's originality. They are factory MGB emblems. But they were only placed on Australian built cars. It would be nice to have a CKD MGB to display them on, but that not being the case, my car will have to do for now. His efforts in this little project were many and I am very appreciative. I think they look real nice.

Believe they were Aussie distributor emblems used on the knocked down cars - not Abingdon emblems....but correct on the knocked down cars, points deductors on other concourse cars here in US.

Man, look at that chrome. Wheeeeeee.

Paul,

Regardless of the authenticity of the emblems....

If you rest of your car looks as good as the two photos... WOW... I haven't seen chrome that perfect since, well, a long time... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Yeah, I know Tony, they would be point deductors, but the car has some things not correct for concourse showing anyway, such as leather seats, biscuit interior, carpeted trunk, wood steering wheel, etc. So we just shine it up and take it for a ride now and then and enjoy the heck out of it. The emblems will probably be the topic of a few conversations and if anyone is interested, I'll explain where they came from and what their supposed to really be on. But, I still think they look real sharp on the car.

It's a shame Abingdon didn't use them.

Paul - Like everybody said: beautiful car done the way you want it! & to heck with the originality freaks!

Oh, don't put too much stock in what NAMGBR says! I can tell you at least one place where their 'expert' is wrong & it has to do with the cockpit trim color!!

Tony....NAMGBR always welcomes volunteers to assist them in making the Register the best out there for its members (new, existing, and potential)....why don't you think about assisting by providing constructive criticism and perhaps even some time to assist the coordinators, registrars, and executive officers in this task. I'm sure it would be appreciated.

Rick - you're absolutely correct...

...however, my past experience with some (note, I said some) of the members is that as members they are automatically 'experts' because they belong to NAMGBR - plus, "new" NAMGBR members couldn't possibly know much of anything - especially as much as them because they've been members for so long! I've still got lots to learn about MG's but have come to a point in my life where I don't wish to argue with the 'experts'! I'll just share my limited knowledge with whoever wants it & let people decide for themselves what's correct......
