How well do you know your British cars?

Both models were at our car show this weekend. One is a 1930, the other a 1950. I've not seen either car before, at any shows. Both amazing vehicles. (the silver car is a web snapshot because the photo I took didn't turn out, the car at our show was a black roadster)

One took best of show and the other Chairman's Choice award, along with 1st in their class.

The top one looks like a Bantam, not too sure about the bottom one.

Well... Since we're just naming them...

I name the top one Ruth,

and the bottom one looks like a Sharon

OK, my guess. "Ruth" is an early Bullnose MG Midget. I haven't been able to pinpoint anything more detailed than that. I knew it was an MG but not much else
I'm guessing a Triumph on the other one, but nothing definate there....
 
I'm guessing 'Ruth' is an Austin Seven and 'Sharon' is a Sunbeam of sometype or a Healey of some type.
 
oooh I think swift6 got me with the Austin seven. I think he's right.
But I cant find a pic of a silverstone that looks like sharon.... pretty colse to a BMW, but not exactly.
 
Silverstone was wrong, most of those are specials for racing. My bad. (I editied my previous post that said Silverstone /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif)

You're off on the other. The one at our show was black, white walls, red interior.

Here's a hint. The car at our show is the only one of the model, 'running' in the US.

And another, the car was made in Coventry.
 
No, not a Jaguar, a Sunbeam or a Healey. I thought it was some sort of Jag at first too.

Another hint, there are only 62 or 64 of that model in the world.

Wow, see the sports car they are trying to get into production. Good looking I guess.
 
Well, A Lea-F (nickname for Lea-Francis) was going to be my next guess. Nice call Sherlock. I have photos of a 1930's Lea-F competing in a Hill climb in Cortona Italy in 2003. Cool car but much older than the roadster shown in this thread. If I can find the photos I'll post them.

There were over 100 car companies that called Coventry home over the years. Coventry was Englands main industrial hub. Which was why Germany bombed it so hard and repeatedly.

Oh, and Kenny's guess on the Bantam is very close as Austin's were built in the US under the Bantam name.
 
Mick Walsh, an editor at Classic And Sports Car is the co-owner of one of these LeaFs, a car his father once owned. A very long-term restoration was finished. The car is beautiful!

Yep, it has the same exact short wheelbase and tall roof that looks like an American Austin or Bantam.
