mystery ignition switch

am looking for the make/model of an expired ignition switch on my jensen interceptor series 2.

am told that it should be a jaguar lucas unit but what the store showed me is nothing like it.

i guess that the column has been modified but what to ?

alec on "other british cars" seems to think it might be from a triumph 2000 series 2, but surely that means it would be a lucas but it dosen't have lucas written on it.

anyone recognise it ?

Sorry I can't be much help, but it's *not* from a 1959 TR3A.

Tom

already know that cause if it was, i would have borrowed it from my tr3a seeing as its been off the road for months now having new engine and rack & pinion steering conversion.

thanks anyway

Looks like an early XJ6 switch from 68-71

Look carefully on the metal body on the switch for a stamped in number( or numbers and letters). I have a lot of Lucas books, and would be happy to try to cross reference it.

no numbers or letters embossed on the body atall only the remains of some red letters on the face of the key end.
wish lucas had produced a "fireside popup picture book" of ignition switches or maybe a "i spy ignition switches".

to jesse bogan

suggestions have been:
early XJS or XJ6 (but these have wire attached and dont have the oval mount).
hillman hunter lucas #39415
rover 1973 lucas #39412 (although this seems unlikely as my car was made in 1971)

does your book have diagrams or pictures ?

I have checked all the Lucas tomes I have available.I have a 400 book from 69( Huge illustrated dealer catalog) that has pics of everthing. No switches like that at all. I also looked in a 65 to 76 book. They only list a MK3, and they do not list an ignition switch at all. I am thinking it is Bosch or maybe Wasa, like on Volvos of the period. The numbering on it is the European DIN standard stuff.

i agree
am begining to think that this is just not british!
someone suggested it might be an italian marelli unit as used in fiat etc and i have received a reply from a possible supplied in italy who thinks he can help.

i will post news.

thanks again

I'd say it's a Volvo or Bosch. When I first saw the front it looked just like one I replaced on my75 240. But the back side had pins for a terminal block. 60's period may have had the spades for connections.

nor did i but looked at an italian 'marelli' site and it is certainly closer that anything else ive come across.
appears that it was probably used on some models of rover too.

saw your pictures, looks like my car when hotwiring after the ignition switch packed up.
