Mystery Engine Identification

I have what I was told is an MGA Engine, except that the numbers are not a G series engine as was proper for an MGA. The Engine number is:
15F-N-H-13736 and the block has "1500" cast into it. Can anyone tell me what a 15F series engine goes with? Thanks.

Nash Metropolitan !

That was fast! Tell me more: will this engine fit an MGA. I want to sell it, but I doubt there are many Nash Owners looking for it. Thanks. Joe

I can't find it listed in the book BMC & Leyland B-Series Engine Data....however, I have a '56 MG Magnette parts car into which somebody transplanted an Metropolitian engine

US-only Metropolitan engine! Us, is it a BMC engine or one produced in the US?

Hey "Silent Unicorn", I see you have an Orient Red MGA. I have decided to paint my new 59 project car either Colorado Red or Orient Red (it will be awhile). Of course, I don't really know what these colors look like. Where in VT are you; I am near Keene, NH.

So, bottom line, how does this engine differ from the G series MGA 1500 engine, and can it be substituted? Would anyone want this engine or is it a boat anchor?

hi Joe i am in Rutland Vermont. not far from you. it will be a while for my mga as well

So how does this 15F engine differ from a 15G. Will it fit in an MGA. What could I get for this: anything, or should I try to sell the parts individually. I don't need this engine for my project. Thanks, Joe.

I have a 59 Nash Metro and there is a local parts shop who specializes in Nash Metro. I think they have a site under some combination of Kipp Motors. They are in Plano Texas and could be reached if you want to sell it. The problem of course, is shipping weight from NH to TX. I would love to have a spare but mine is complete and can't really afford it.

Hi Joe,

Only guessing... but it's probably the same as an MGA block but tuned for a different (lower) power output. Seems to me that the engine used in the Metropolitan was also used in Austin/Morris sedans, if not the exact same engine. To reach that market to sell the engine you might want to try contacting the British Saloon Car Club of Canada - https://www.geocities.com/motorcity/7967 - our next newsletter is coming up shortly. Contact Elva Allen off the homepage for the club.

Might have a taker...

Posted this over on the Yahoogroups our Saloon Car Club hosts, and one guy expressed interest.

Did some digging in books this morning... The MGA used the same basic block as in the Austin A50/A55 Cambridge and Morris Oxford (Series II). And the same engine specs that the Austin/Morris models used was also installed in the Metropolitan - 52 BHP, whereas the MGA 1500 using the same block puts out 72 BHP.

Laugh all you want... there are still people restoring Metropolitan's to original. And you may not see them everyday, but there are Austin Cambridge's and Morris Oxford's around North America, this engine will likely be useful for someone.

Walking encylopedia indeed. I had never heard of these cars. Let me know if the interested party would like to pursue this. Thanks.
