Mystery Buses

A plumber came over to my garage last week and when he saw my Spridgets you was pretty interested into what they were. When I told him they were made by British Leyland he told me that he had an old 50's era bus with a British Leyland engine. Now that started my interest.

Apparently a couple brothers from Iowa started a bus company and revolutionized the transit industry. They were American made bus with BL engine. He said that his is a 30ft 9ton monster that looks like a HUGE VW bug.

I wish I could remember what he said the manufacturer was because I can't find any information on them on google. Does anyone have an idea of what type of bus. I think it was something like Prichard?

Well, it wouldn't have been BL - that was a later concoction (1968) than the 50s.
Leyland Motors' roots go back to the 19th century, and was a long-standing maker of lorries (trucks to my American friends) and buses. There were lots of them around when I was growing up, and you still see them. I have an idea they still make lorries, in Leyland in NW England, but as a subsidiary of some other company.
