my water gauge stopped working

Most likely, it sprung a leak. You have three options
1) Buy a replacement unit.
b. have yours repaired professionally
III: attempt a homebrew patch job that someone will supply a link to soon.
 
I went the ebay route for my replacement. As long as you get it cheap, you have nothing to lose. Just be sure to ask the seller to stick the bulb in boiling water and tell you how far it moves, before you bid! If it moves on beyond 'N' at 212 degrees, it's close enuf to tell you what you need to know.
