I have an MGB with a 2.8 v6 form an 86 chevy camaro engine that i just put in. I have done away with the air pump and egr and all emmisions. Upon getting the engine running I have not been able to hook up the mass air flow sensor to the computer, the engien will backfire through the intake and run very rough. all wires are correct and geting the right power when needed. So i have that disconected untill i can figure that out and also when the car gets up to normal temp the car will start misfireing on 1 cylinder(not spark or timing, i've checked all of this). It only happens in stop and go traffic while constantly keeping the rpm's low. ive reset the computer and it still missfires on one. it eventually taeks care of it on its own while ideling. when i'm driving it home like that when ever i let off the gas to shift it backfires through the exhaust....any ideas what it may be?

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gifI'm not sure about the factory ecu and the what not. Ever think of runnin' a Megasquirt?(do-it-yourself stand alone engine managment system) I have a friend who has one on his Yugo(it's turbo'd and fuel injected) and has had great luck with it. It's really cheap too, and programable. It's hard to say what may be causing the miss. How healthy is the motor? How many miles? The backfire through the exhaust is a good indicator of a rich condition and an exhaust leak. Good luck! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gifWow, $175 too much money? You can't buy a decent carb for that. https://www.megasquirt.info/index.html I was assuming you wanted to stay fuel injected. How do the plugs look? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

This megasquirt is interesting - have you done one before? How would one start - is it easier to convert a carb'd motor or start with an already FI motor?

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gifI haven't ever messed with one. I have a friend who has one on his car. He's built like 2-3 systems. He claims he's not the sharpest tool in the shed and to quote him,"they're EZ!" I've driven his car and it runs really good. I think it would be easier to start with a f.i. motor to begin with. He has his on a Fiat motor(it's in a Yugo of all things) that he turbo'd. Any fairly certain he is using all the Fiat sensors too. I'm thinking about building one to run efi in my Stag when I do the motor swap! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Well a free intake manifold and a Weber that I'm busying a car fow to get my money back is the cheepest way. I'll end up making money. I'm giving up on the fuel injection though. I jsut had to deal with injectors squirting gas everywhere for 4 hours last night.
