My trip to the San Diego Car Show

The wife & I went to the car show to see what's new.

Wife loved the Escalade (I could have cared less), I liked the Aston Martin, the MB SLR, the Jag XJR and of course Shelby GT 500. I also liked the new Camero and Challenger that should be in production in the next year or so.

Here's a sampling of some of what we saw;

Anyway if you want to see some of good, bad & “ugly” at the show as well as some classics - I put together a photo montage on Shutter-fly.

Let me know what ya'll think?

Also it wasn’t just about the new either. Check out these beauties. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I know a few (like Sammy) who wonder why make it because if they wanted one, they'd just by an original 70 Challenger. But I can’t help it – I really like it. Besides a decent original that wasn’t beat the heck or rusting away, would probably cost more than this new rendition. I’ll also bet that the new one drives & handles a heck of a lot better than an original too.

I think the best recreations of classic cars produced by modern car manufacturers are, in order of preference...

1. Ford GT
2. Mini
3. Dodge Challenger
4. VW Bug

Of course I'm speaking strictly in terms of aesthetics.

I think the stinkpot resurrection award goes to the Ford Mustang. They should have left it alone.

Honorable mention goes to the PT Cruiser because while it didn't recreate a specific car, it bring back a classic style from the 30's - 50's and modernized it.

As I’ve said in the past – I kind of like the new styling of the Mustang. Retro & modern rendition of a muscle car all at the same time. Prefer it much more than the previous models anyway.

There are few joys in the world that come close to a GREAT car show! I caught some of these last fall, down by the river in LR....I seem to gravitate to those ragtops... I dream of having my Midget sitting with some of these bad boys.

I think the Mustang has a lot going for it but I'm just not happy at all with the build quality. As far as looks go, it isn't BAD per say, I just don't think they pulled off the retro thing very well. But they did a bang-up job on the GT inside and out! I think the problem I have with the Mustang is that it looks too cheap, like a plastic model. The other classic comebacks at least look like they are made of metal like the originals. Just my 2 cents. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree with that plastic thing...way too many cars have way too much plastic. I happen to be a lover of chrome and metal. I am very fearful of what they are going to do when they release the new "MG" cars soon. I am afraind they will be like the mustang....toyish.
