Spent the whole day trailering it and having it made legal to go on the road. Inspection, DMV the works.

I finally (at 5:30) get to take it out.
My mechanic, the a$$, tells me he put gas in it. The gauge says 1/4 of a tank.

I get 6 miles down the road and it dies on me, on the highway, during rush hour. I have to have it flatbedded back (thanks Hagerty).

Turns out it ran out of fuel. The gauge is reading wrong. I guess he only put a pint in! I filled it up (13 gallons) and its much better.

Its a very very different car from the one that went away 8 months ago. I think the carbs still need a bit of work - it doesn't do much other than bog down below 2500rpm, and idles (at 650) like a dog, but above 3500, up to redline, woohoo...

I'll try to post a few pics of the stuff that changed tomorrow. The trunk looks cool, even if half the stuff isn't hooked up...

Take your time and tweak it out before driving too much.

You'll be happier knowing that you've taken a few minutes to double check EVERYTHING, like oil and water levels, clamps, header bolts, etc. Carb adjusting so that it doesn't foul plugs or flood out at idle will make it more enjoyable to drive when finished. Running out of gas after leaving a shop doing that much work is shameful on his part. To trust him further with the other fluids would be shameful on your part is something goes wrong.

After that give it the gun and raise cain!

Also please post some pics. We're all anxious to see the finished product.

And good luck too!

Congrats on getting it back on the road...I ran outta gas in my TR6 once...Prolly deserved it as I didn't believe the guage was actually working, so I disregarded it.

Congrats!
If the gas and temp gauges are reading high check the voltage stabilizer behind the dash.
I formatted the D drive on my wife's computer to make room for all the pictures.

Congratulations! I know what a feeling it must be to finally get it on the road. Once you work the bugs out, that car is going to be a true joy to drive!

Like the others, I live in anticipation of photos of your pride and joy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Best of luck Alan. Seat time will get things sorted out. I was told by my TR mentor years ago, "Make sure I keep it fun & drive the car", other wise it becomes something it was not intended to be. I remember his advise every time I reach the end of my patience, and it was tested often over the years.
You have created a "one of" and this comes with the territory.

It is worth it, keep it in perspective & HAVE FUN.

Ok here goes.
Remember this is just for the summer! I'm still wanting to do the rest of the work next winter.

<edit> If you look closely at the bottom of the picture you can see the fuel pressure regulator that has been fitted for the efi conversion. Also thanks again to LastDeadLast for the filters. They look great imo.

Battery cable shot - I relocated it to the trunk and used some Moroso through bulkhead fittings to run the cable - which as you can see is plenty thick enough.

The battery box is a $50 job from ebay. I actually think it turned out pretty well.

Spin on oil filter using a sandwich plate as a thermostat. It's an SP1T Mocal type. I like that there is only two (instead of the usual four) lines to the cooler.

Its hard to see, but I couldn't get the camera down in there.

kudos to alansimon for the original idea...

Stainless rad and 85A alternator.

Thats probably enough for now. I'll post a picture of the rear halfshaft setup next time I take the back wheel off. It looks really really neat in there. Works great too with the LSD. Tried it this morning...

SWEET!! It looks like the only thing that we have in common, performance wise, is the valve cover.

Good luck with everything.

Alan (or LastDeadLast) - along with everything else, those filters look great. I'm guessing that they are not K&Ns, so what kind of filters are they, and where can we get them? They would look great in my car, too, even though I would only need 66.6% as many. I need something to distract eyes away from all of the things that don't look so good.

Thanks
