TR2/3/3A My TR3 heater fan switch is broken

My TR3 heater fan switch is broken beyond repair. I can't afford to spend the $150 Moss or VB wants for their switches. Is there an alternative switch out there that can be used in place of the OEM?

Practically anything that will fit in the hole will do. Check your local FLAPS or Radio Shack for a simple two-wire toggle switch. The adjustment is useless IMO, giving only the equivalent of Dim, Flicker and Off. You can get by with just Dim and Off.

If you want something that looks a bit more at home, pick up a used wiper switch on eBay. Eg,

I agee with Randall. They are on ebay all the tine.

By the way Randall what is a "FLAPS". You refer to them from time to time. We have flaps in middle Tennessee but they sure don't sell car parts or any other good stuff heh.

If $$$ are a concern (believe me I know from experience) this is what I would do. Leave the defective switch in place, but remove the wires first. Go to Pep Boys or your favorite auto parts store and ask them to sell you a simple toggle switch , rated at least 10 amps. This should be less than $10. You will then mount this new switch under the dash, in an inconspicuous place, and re-connect the wires. This way, no one will ever know that the old switch is defective and it all looks original. When you need heat, just reach under the dash and flip the new switch.

Note: you will not have speed control of the blower motor. The old switch incorporats a rheostat that provided a crude way to vary speed. You will have either no fan or 100% fan.

Good luck

FWIW, one of the cars I bought already had this mod; using an ordinary 110v wall switch ! Worked fine, just not what one would expect.

Randall, ever check to see if that was hooked to the head lights too?
Would be appropriate

I found a like-new correct heater rheostat on eBay for 10 bucks. Seems they were used widely -- the one I got was listed as a Rolls Royce part.

No other bids -- apparently RR owners don't troll eBay for bargains!
