Hi Gang,
Tonight, my boy jumped in the driver's seat of my BJ8. Being only 18 and seeing how he doesn't drive stick, he had no idea what was coming next.I told him to start the Healey and back it out of the driveway. After seeing that hundred mile look on his face, I had to go for it. I told him what he needed to back out,but once in the street, he was lost.I then jumped in the passenger and away we went. This to me is what it's all about. My dad gave me this car to have fun with, and when I'm done ,it goes to my son. I hope your Healey is giving you as much enjoyment as mine is giving me.

awesome! by why don't you do like in the movie Transformers and take your son in your Healey down to the local Porsche dealer and tell him "in your dreams"

Hey Bobby,

My dad taught me to drive stick in his Healey.
Now that I look back on that, what a cool dad I had.
Consider yourself a cool dad. We know your son does and I'll back him up.
Congraduations on having a great outlook.
Cheers,
Roger

You're a good dad and I for one am proud of you. I'm looking forward to maybe teaching my granddaughter to drive my Agatha. Only 2 more years to go. Of course she'll have to come to New Mexico for driver's ed. (She lives in Florida.)

Bobby R, that is very cool!! I always maintain that if you are young person, what's the use in having a dad/uncle with a cool car if you never get to drive it. Your son will be the envy of his friends because he has a dad with a slick car that he actually got to drive!

Cheers,
Steve

What a great story! And give yourself some points for being a good dad. I'm sure your son will remember that moment as long as he lives. My son still remembers his first time behind the wheel of my BJ7 after 21 years.

Best wishes,
Jim

My dad taught me to drive stick in my mom's MGB, which then they gave to me after I got my license, which got be hooked on British Cars!

I hope to teach my son to drive in my Jag or Mini. Hopefully they'll both be restored by then - he's 6!!

I learned to drive and be an engineer on my Dad's '63 BJ-7. I drove that car through high school in '79 and it was this car that gave me the love of British cars. I cannot wait to teach my son, now 13, to work on then drive my BJ-8! I hope it will be his pride and joy someday. Good memories!

I know what you are feeling. My 17 yr old drove the Healey for the first time last year complete with the 100 mile stare upon getting behind the wheel. He has had a little practice since then but the car still gets ahead of him. It's time to shift out of first before he knows what happened. SHIFT, SHIFT it tell him. His two most memorable quotes: "There is so much to do with your feet." and "Dad, ah, you are a pretty good shifter." A teen complement - brought tears to my eyes.
