I have wanted a metal band saw for some time and as I am going to build a rotisserie I felt this was the perfect time to get the band saw.

After some looking around I settled on the Klutch 5 x 4 7/8 portable saw from Northern tool. It seemed well made, is portable and has a cast iron vice not a pressed steel one. The main frame is a very solid looking casting. You can swing the head rather than the vice to 60 degrees.
So far I have not done too much on it but it cuts square and it cuts fairly fast.

I do not like the fact you have to hold the switch on to keep it cutting (tie wrap coming soon) also you have to keep downward pressure by hand. A weight may be added.
It seems that it is not intended to be set up vertically as there is a stop screw that stops the head at about 0 degrees. Removed the screw and need to come up with a stop so I can cut in the vertical position.
Being portable is a great plus as I can take it to my trailer and cut up the steel there rather than carrying a 20 foot length into the shop.

Overall a good buy with a few small limitations.

A metal bandsaw is a handy tool. If you just want a quick rotisserie for the Midget, here is what my shop partner made for my Sprite in about an hour from a single sheet of plywood. I was skeptical at first but it proved to be plenty stout enough. He had previously built the same thing for his MGB, considerably heavier than the Sprite or Midget.

So true. I have a lot of tools I bought for one job and never used them again. Like an adapter for an auto transmission that is used with a jack, an engine front wheel drive support that goes across the fenders to hold engine when taking it out. Some strut sprng compressors. Can't brong myself to sell as I might need them again. And the cost today, whew.
 
I'm a firm believer in buy a tool and resell on criagslist. Cheaper than renting (because I'm slow / weekend warrior) and I get the benefit of a new tool.

I just (last week) bought a new flooring saw. Will use it then try and sell it.
Buying the right tool always makes the job easier.
