Well my deal on the 1977 "B" was finally concluded and she now sits safely in my drive. I have a few issues to work out although Nothing seems to major. Carb is to rich, there seems to be a problem with the charging system. Those things I see first then I'm starting with the Tony Barnhill checklist. Wish me luck and I'll keep everyone posted. Pics as soon as I figure out how. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Oh yeah my wife has officially named the car. Tah Dah.... her name is "Molly" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Molly. Nice. And fitting, as she will now become your mistriss! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Way to go! Have we sen a photo of Miss Molly?

Good news.....now lets come with the pictures.....Get a few wallet sized, just in case /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Pics Pics Pics.... Come-on now we're visual creatures! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Still working on the pics. Got my first good experience with the DPO today. I was trying to track down some electrical problems when I opened an in-line fuse holder under the hood and low and behold out came a nail. The ultimate slow blow fuse. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif I'm still trying to find out why the wipers, Tach and horn won't work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif More to follow. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Haha, I've done that when I could not find a short. Usually caused the short to heat and melt and such then you can find it. Was on a 40 Ford when I was a kid.

Wipers, tach, horn, gas guage, turn signals on same circuit - believe its 2nd fuze from top in fuse block...but best to pull the block & clean it & its ground.

The 40 ford probably had a really small 6 volt battery too... try that in almost any 12v car with a modern battery, and the wire won't just heat up... It'll light up in just a second or 2 and could burn a car to the ground... Just a warning to anyone who thought doing that might be a semi-good idea. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok, tach and wipers are working now. Still no horn and the washers don't work. Also, the ignition light comes on and then goes out and then back on again. Any ideas! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif also solved the carb problem. Pulled it and lo and behold the DPO was at it again. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Part of the linkage had been assembled backwards and the floats were set wrong. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

Ignition light might be just a loose belt.

OK, next question. My DPO had installed one of the square solid state fuel pumps and a fuel pressure regulator. Is the fuel pressure regulator necessary? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif The regulator is adjustable from 0 to five pounds. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Depends - how much is thefuel pump putting out? You only want about 4.

Don't know how much pressure its putting out. Had one on a TR7 once. It didn't seem to make the TR7 flood. No pressure regulator on it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

I like Tah-Dah better....Good to see the wife still has a sense of humor about it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

They make those square pumps in at least 2 pressure ranges - one in the correct for a MGB range (3-6 psi), and another in something more like 10-15 psi range. So, the regulator may actually be doing something if it's one of the high pressure pumps... My recommendations - Buy a new SU pump - with point, or solid state switching. I have the solidstate SU pump on mine, but if it ever dies - it's just dead (but it has worked flawlessly for the past 2.5 years). The points one will require just a bit more maintenance, but if it dies, you can usually just do the "smack it with a BFH or a rock" thing, and it'll start going again until you can get to your destination and clean or replace the points in it (easily accessible).

Hmmm..."smack it wif a rock".... I crossed "Alligator Alley" whacking the B floorboard like that... replaced the SU with a Facet low-pressure pump and traversed the return (250 Mi) trip without incident. Always good to have a nice granite ROCK aboard! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok, now for the next question. This is a wierd one, at least to me. I happened to let the clutch pedal spring up quickly the other day and it dropped to the floor. I pulled the cover off the top of the pedal box and the push rod had popped out of the clutch cylinder. I put it back in and the clutch works fine. Is this natural? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif If not tell me whats wrong .....PLEASE! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Not normal - something isn't fitting together properly...might be time to pull the MC & check it out.

...though, on second thought, are your return springs on your pedals?
