The wife was digging through some boxes today and ran across this picture of my Maternal Grandfather. I wanted to scan it, so took the back off the frame to remove the picture and found that my mother had written the following on the back of the picture:
Jean Harold Wood at about age 20.
Born Nov 13, 1896 at Wind Ridge PA
Parents were Morgan and Josephine "Josie" ("nee" Regar) Wood.
He received his BE degree from Bethany College (WVa) in May of 1917.
The US got into WWI in 1917. Jean was inducted into the Army in June 1917.
Jean was a Sergeant and fought in the battle of the Argonne in France.
He received Masters in Education after he married.
He was a member of Phi Beta Kapa at WVU
He was a high school principle at Littleton High from 1919 to 1931
He was principal at Roosevelt Wilson High, Clarksburg WVa from 1931 to 1952?
Married Edna Ellen Long, March 21, 1921
Sadly, Granddad Jean suffered a massive stroke before I was born and I only knew him as a wheelchair-bound man who could barely speak. I'm told he had a photographic memory (something I know for certain I did not inherit).
