SWMBO & I are heading to Chicago - won't have a ton of time (a full day and most of a day) but will have a rental car.

Any thoughts of things to see/do - I have never been there before.

Sorry, can't help.
Been to Chicago twice but both times in early January with about 3 feet of snow on the ground and too darn cold to do anything.

I lived in Troy IL for 4 years while stationed at Scott AFB, yet the only time I ever set foot in Chicago was changing planes at the airport.

Lived there in graduate school... and I'd not generally want a car in the Loop.

Art Institute (south Michigan Ave.).
Museum of Science and Industry (south side).

What he said. Chicago drivers I've found to be better than most cities but with public transport abundant no need to drive and try to park, which is the real problem. Walking, at the north end of Michigan Ave you can cross under the roads and be on the Lake Michigan boardwalk.

The Chicagoland MG Club's British Car Swap Meet is 3/18 at the Dupage County Fairgrounds.

Funny... I was told they were closing and hurried to visit the place in 2011... but it lives on! My dad used to go there in the 1940s and I still have a beer mug from the place.

Yes, I agree that an alternative for eating, that is also classic, is Manny's (for a HUGE corned-beef sandwich).
