So I'm heading over to meet my wife at In-N-Out burger the other day (this is getting too weird, I keep spotting stuff on my way to eat out with my wife, and it's usually near some intersection or other with the same street) and a few blocks before I get there I find myself rolling along next to an Opel 1900 wagon.

It looked brand new too, similar to this one (pic snagged randomly from the internet), chrome bumpers so it was pre '74, but the color was period correct burnt orange.

Maybe not all that exciting for some folks, but we're an Opel family. My sister and I both drove Mantas and my brother still has a GT. I'd love to pick up another one.

Friend back east years ago was putting a vette motor in his GT

The Manta was a great runner. Guy in New Orleans had one that whupped lots of folks in his class in the autocrosses.

Nice Saw a lovely yellow GT yesterday

I remember well my first (and last) visit to Carlisle Import Nationals back in 2003... I had never seen so many Opel's in my life, as they were never sold in Canada much, just a few Opel GT's and never the family cars...

I too, have a soft spot for Opel ("The German Fiat").
Make mine a pre '74 Manta Rallye,in Yellow or Orange.
Same thing up here in the Albany (NY) area. Also halfway decent Showroom Stock sedans back in the day....
A friend/ coworker, back in the early 70's, lent me her Opal GT to race at in local Gymkhana, at what is now Nassau Coliseum. Did some practice first, well away from the course and realized I didn't have the talent so I bagged the racing part and just spectated. Closest I ever got to sanctioned automotive competition.

Surely not. Vauxhall didn't start re-badging Opels until '75.

Maybe not, but the common GM parentage resulted in the obvious family kinship in the product lines. Kadett and Viva, for example.
