That was my friend Les's car at a car show at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City.

Very pretty... probably didn't look that good when it left the factory....

I agree....& there's something to your point...when we restore them better than when they left the factory, there should be some type deduction of points in a concours competition! But it really is pretty.

OHO Tony, have you hit a sore spot with me, especially in Jag concours competition. I have seen 100 point cars in the local concours. I say there is no such thing. I would expect that if a car WAS really 100 points, all of the lucas parts would have matching date codes ( or at least appropriate codes to the build date) There was no clear over base paint in 1964. E types had vinal coated tops. The belt on the engine should be made by the correct maker...... I have no quarrel with "over restored" cars, as they are BEAUTIFUL, but the actual make sponsored concours should award maximum points to cars that are authentic. There is now a preservation class for original cars, and that is a good thing, but shouldn't they be the actual concours cars? I think the "Bloomington Gold" corvette concours is the right idea. EVERYTHING has to be correct as of the date of manufacture.

Jesse,

I agree - I was at the Portland All British Car Meet
with the Lotus Car Club of BC (Canada) club members. One of
the members got a plastic trophy & was so excited that he'd
received it.
However,in the Jag group,one guy with an E-type,got a
2nd place trophy (Silver platters),& was really put-out,because
you could tell that he thought that he deserved 1st place.
Jags are incredible cars, but why do some of the owners
think that they're better than the rest of us "low-life" British
car owners?
Sorry, but this has bothered me for years.

Because as everyone knows, us Jag owners are just nasty Jerks from birth...we just can't help ourselves :driving:

Imvho and no personal offense to any here who have or had one, my own observations have been that owners of 2 seat fiberglass bodied GM built and powered automobiles have exhibited the highest likelyhood of displaying the "we're better than the rest of all other car owners" mentality and attitude. Just my own observation over the years, your experiences may vary.

Now, you wouldn't be talking about Corvette owners would you?

Well Peter, you should put the shovel down now before the hole gets too big. Not only does Basil own a Jag, but a Corvette too. :yesnod: Yeah, Tony's got one too.

No offense taken, but as a current (and previous) Corvette owner (2000 C5 Coupe currently and 1990 Corvette convertible previously), I don't share your observations. I've been associated with Corvette owners for a long time and at least the people I know are just really great people with a passion for their cars - just like people with Triumph Spitfires or MGBs have a passion for their cars. I don't doubt that has been your perception, but perceptions can often be wrong and can be biased by our own personalities.

Are some Corvette owners jerks? Yes โ€“ but then some MG or Triumph owners are jerks. A jerk is a jerk irrespective of what kind of car they drive.

Ironically, it was my association with Corvettes that was the impetus for my starting this forum. I had purchased a used 1990 Corvette several years ago and as a result, started hanging out on www.Corvetteforum.com . I found that forum a very convenient way to communicate with other enthusiasts. At the same time, I owned two British cars, the E-Type and the Spitfire (still have both) and went looking for a similar forum for British cars. While there were some small forums for specific Marques, I could not find any good, really active forums for British cars in general.

Up until that time, I had been subscribed to a couple of โ€œmailing listsโ€ but always hated those (from a technical standpoint, nothing to do with the people on the list). So, I decided to take a stab at creating my own forum for British cars just to see if I could do it and on December 25th 2000, this forum was born!

So in a sense, this forum owes its existence to the fact that I am also a Corvette owner; were it not for my association with the Corvette forum, I probably would never had been inspired to start BCF.

Hmmmmm.....looks like I'm in triple trouble since I own MG's, Jaguars, and a Corvette! Plus, my 380SL....now, there are some folks who could drown in the rain; some members of the Mercedes Benz Club of America.

And don't leave out those snooty Porschephiles! :jester:

Careful! I had a 944 before I sold it for the 90 Vette!

Its funny but true. Jerks are jerks. Years ago we had a local Jag club sponsored event called "The British Motor Tour". My shop kept many of the tourers running in the first place, so when I showed up in my BGT I was a little suprised by the comments about "you are driving that???. " I can guarantee that the GT finished the tour intact, and without holding up traffic. I have a friend that has a Ferrari 330GT. He was in the right place at the right time, and has the car of his dreams as a result. When he attended a Ferrari club event, owners of newer cars would not even talk to him. (His car is not "perfect" but it is driven.)Fooey! I know that some folks get upset tummies over modified cars. Some folks get it over street rods. I just like cars. All of them. I like LBCs the best, but that is my personal choice. I enjoy looking at a 35 Packard as well as an E type. What the heck?? In the end, we are all car people or we would not do this in the first place. I have owned over 100 cars in my lifetime, so far. from Renault 8 gordini to a 48 Studebaker truck, to Mgs and Jaguars Pontiac GTOs to Chevy Vegas.. I liked them all for one reason or another. I hope to hit at least 200 before I croak.
