My first mini encounter!~

This was circa 1987(or 1988). My friend an I (I am in the colorful shirt!) drove a TVR 3000M down to Daytona Beach with his parents (they were in a Tasmin). GRM was doing an article on TVR's and asked my friend's dad if he would bring his cars down for a photo shoot. This picture (the mini) was taken in the GRM driveway. I don't remember who owned it, but I remember him telling us stories about its handling and racing prestige..

Interesting! GRM was only a few years old by that time. Those guys are a great group of people.

Four of my students built an Eclipse for the GRM $2003 Challenge. I think their overall finish was around 6th.
I built "Red 909" (below on right) for the $2007 Challenge but couldn't get away to run the event. So I club-raced the car for a couple of years and then sold it.

I did write a letter to Tim and Dave about our Jefferson 500 event and suggested that they include it in their Classic Motorsports Small Bore Challenge.
Then I asked our club president ( of VRG ) to contact them. A deal was worked out and they came to our 2011 Jefferson 500.
I ran my Spridget in their Small Bore Challenge that year.

Students? What do you teach? I teach computers to K-5th grade students at an Elementary school...

And, as sad as it is, I live 40 minutes from Gainesville and have never been to one of the GRM challenges. :-(

I teach mechanical engineering in a community college.
It's really the first two years of a bachelors degree; we have an arrangement with a number of 4 years schools where my students go in as juniors.

As you can imagine, a lot of them are car guys (and gals.....one of my girls races an alcohol dragster that runs almost 200 mph).
I am also the SAE mentor for the chapter at our school.
