We run a small autocross circuit at our annual British Field day -- really more of an exhibition that allows folks to see our cars in motion. The track is intentionally tight to keep speeds down and things safe.

I took the MGB out for a couple runs early on in the day, and had a blast! Managed a 37 second run on my third pass, which was decent -- only the Spridgets and a few really quick guys got down into the 36s. One classic Mini managed a 33.3, truly impressive.

All in all, the old girl did a good job for me. I'm really coming to like this car!

Fun!

Nice! was someone having a traffic cone sale?

I have participated in 3 so far and had a lot of fun. I got two first places with the Austin Healey. The best one was in San Diego at Qualcom stadium. The track was over 2 miles and you could get up some impressive speeds (max in 2nd or barely into 3rd). These are fun, you don't have to worry about other cars.

I've been autocrossing my Spitfire for 3 years and love it. You should try to find a local club in your area. It's great fun and a way to race (kind of) without the huge investment of track racing. I've also done a couple of hill climbs and that is a blast.

Autocross is a great way to get to know how the car(s) handle and develop your "simpatico with the equipment"!!!

Thrashin' about on pavement with cones as the only victims is truly waaay too much fun. Doin' it on an icy parking lot will heighten your awareness and handling skills even more... You're at 10-tenths at five MPH!

I don't have time to take up another hobby, but I sure did have fun. I'm still amazed at what that MGB could do even at those speeds.

We would do FTD on a regular basis with a '66 MGB while in VA... guys with "built" Spridgets were confuzzled... "How does that guy DO that?!?!"

FTD = Fast Time of the Day

As Sir Stirling is oft quoted...."the definition of speed is taking a 25 mph corner at 26 mph"... :driving:

A fiend let me run his B in an autocross.I took STOD-
I was amazed that the car was still competetive, but sad that I
beat my friend in his car.

must not have been a very big fiend if they didn't do it themself :jester:

I recall that back in the day, a GT6 was all you needed to win your class in an autocross. Until . . . the 914s appeared. :cryin:

The 914 helped to end the LBC era, I've always thought . . .

More like a self-inflicted wound, unfortunately.

yeah pretty much, imo. case in point, the 74.5 to 76 MGBs were lifted to meet new bumper height regulations and had NO anti-roll bars on them, so they all looked and felt like they were about to flip any time you took a turn faster than 5MPH. (not to mention strangling emissions devices)

Must never have seen an autocross where a Lotus Europa or Elan show'd up.

My buddy would show up with his Europa and everyone would yell. FOUL!!
