Among other things, I am a lover of island music. Here is my favorite singer. It's a shame he died so young. Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.

I worked with the boss' son-in-law alot and we became good friends. He unfortunately died at the age of 29 in a motorcycle accident. When we arrived at the burial site, his wife had that exact recording playing. It's a song I will never forget. Beautiful.

On a lighter note, I have a luthier friend that sells alot of wood for other luthiers on ebay. He's accumulated quite a bit of pieces that were just too small for guitars. He started selling the smaller pieces to ukulele makers. It took off. He's selling to uke builders all over world, and it's now over 80% of his wood sales. Unlike traditional classical guitar builders, uke makers are not afraid of using a wide variety of woods, just so long as it's beautiful...like that one you have pictured above.

I think IZs music will be around for many years to come. He and his music are dearly loved by the Hawaiian people and others around the world. He also had a warm personality to go with it. What a shame his obesity helped claim his life so young. But he did leave us his music to remember him by.

I once attended a Don Ho show in '69. A great performance, and that's about all I know about Hawaiian music.

Then went on to body surf at Wiami Bay, nothing like falling through the crest to see only sand below you. Dumb!

any of them as long as I was listening to them right now on a balmy Hawaiian beach sucking on a fruity drink while filling my lungs with salty air and the sound of the ocean in my ears!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

& some of Izzy's work is his best....way back when he used to perform in the International Market in Honolulu where you could it for free & listen all night.

Have you heard her sing? Apparently a lot of people do like her music but I haven’t heard her myself.

I also have to vote for IZ as my overall favorite Hawaiian singer but for the ladies I’ll side with Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom.

PC.
