My Daimler bumpers

One of the items missing on my Daimler Special Sport are the front bumper overriders. Knowing that finding a set of originals would be next to impossible, I set out looking for a suitable sub. After talking to David Beales, and on his suggestion, I looked at the front overriders on an MGA. A friend who lives near me owns an MGA and today he drove over and we took one of his overriders off. Comparing them to the rears on the SS, I must say that I think I found my overriders! I can buy a set of repros from Moss Motors and with a little grinding to get the shape that fits against the bumper just right, I think these will look VERY close to original and compared to the backs, they are the exact same size and almost identical shape. The only thing is, they would need to be mounted upside down from how they mount on the MGA (MGA has the fat part on top, whilst the SS has the fatter part on the bottom).

No they are not exactly the same, but they are definitely very close.

Ahhhhh, the little joys that make this hobby so much fun. Wonder if you could get them past a concourse judge??? If only the rest of our Daimler parts problems could be solved with the same ease.

Probably not, but I have no great asperations to make this thing concourse, just a nice driver that looks reasonable close to correct.

Just for comparison, here are a couple of pictures. One is of the front bumper on Brian Kitching's lovely SS and the other is a picture of My neighbor's MGA. As you can see the Daimler sports the overrider with the fat part on onder the bumber and the narrow part above whereas the MGA has the narrow part of the overrider below. As you can see from the photos, if you were to flip the MGA overrider over it would be very close indeed to the Daimler overrider.

Looks like it might work to me.

They'll probably look fine. I've had the same issue (finding overriders) and am surprised at the large number of similiar, but not quite identical, shapes for these things. Often not easy to find, and not cheap when you do.

Maybe thats why I see so many MGA's with the overridder on upside down.....

Basil - yell if I can help you get them

Thanks Tony, but I found them online for cheap.

Maybe you should put a couple on your car, upload the photo to a Daimler BBS & tell them you've discovered a trove of new bumper uprights & that they should contact you directly to get a set of the "rare" find!

hehehehe
