Does anyone here use the Western Digital My Cloud or My Cloud Mirror? I just ordered the 6TB version (Really 3TB if you use it in a RAID 1 configuration). It's basically a personal cloud storage system that you hook to your router and then can access it (and your files) over the internet from anywhere.

Not to hijack, but I wonder if the cloud vendors have approached the Stones to use their song for advertising...

I'd imagine they'll have to pay a pretty penny!

One of my clients has the Seagate equivalent, doesn't think it fast enough. We're likely going to commit to THIS after I have done a bit more eval.

In being available over the internet to you, be sure you don't put anything on it you wouldn't want anyone else to see, too many people out there who might find a way in, even with good passwording.

No nekkid selfies - check!

Or credit or bank or identifying information. Sad to say, but there are 1000s if not millions looking to take what you worked hard for.
and in some areas of the work organized by syndicates and perhaps even government entites.

True. I take precautions.

Doc, I've been using the consumer version of that for a couple years now, been a solid product with no complaints. Never had to do a full restore (thankfully) but have restored individual files a number of times with no issues.

 Thanks, Drew. The cross-platform capability is what we've been looking for. Amanda doesn't play well as a remote access tool, CrashPlan seems to be a perfect answer.

Running it on three Macs and two Windows 7 boxes, no issues.

Well, have had the 6TB My Cloud for a couple of days now and really like it! Love the RAID configuration with ability to hot-swap a drive if one goes bad with zero loss of data! The App on my iPhone works great for accessing the drive remotely, as does the app on my Macbook Pro! It is completely quiet too, so that's a plus.

However, after I had received it and played around with it a little, well, guess what - I saw the 8TB version had ton on sale again for only $40 more than I had just paid for the 6TB. What to do? I called Amazon and explained my frustration and that, had the 8TB been that price when I made my purchase, I'd have bought it instead. Well, I am a Amazon Prime member and I must say, I was happy with the service! The guy allowed me to buy the 8TB right then and there and at the same time, issued a full refund on the 6TB model. He then emailed my a link for a shipping label so that, as soon as the 8TB version comes, I only have to pack up the 6TB version and ship it back at no cost to me! So, after Monday (estimated arrival date), I will have the 8TB version rather than the 6TB. In the RAID 1 configuration, it's really 4TB, but still, the extra dual 1TB storage is worth another $40 I'd say.
