My Alfa... And questions for Doc.

Offline
Well... I figured I'd just start a thread here since my new car is not british and keeping up with questions and answers in 3 different forums is kinda hard.

1. Where to find blue leather seat covers and dash pad?
2. What do I need the big screwdriver for?
3. Guess I need to cover the car until I put on the new top (which will happen soon)... The one on it leaks like a seive - like it was litterally made of fine mesh screen. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

NOt sure about the blue interior stuff, will call Luciano in Miami later today tho. That screwdriver makes most of the jobs you'll ever do on the car a MUCH easier task. It makes a GREAT "listenin' pipe" too!

When you do go for the top replacement, start spritzin' Blaster on the studs around the back inside locating strip well in advance...oh! and there are two drainpipes in the tray back there: make SURE the are open. Coat hanger works well enuff if you put a flat loop (bent tightly and wrapped) in the "business" end so's not to poke holes in the tubes.

I had left the title, bill of sale, and big wiring diagram on the passenger seat lastnight... Thought I had ruined them, they were all wet. I've got them drying in the house now. Luckily the ink didn't run any of them. <whew>

ACK! Another argument for a nice factory hardtop. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Waaayy $$$ but if I could find a beat up one...

I'd love to have a hardtop for this car.... beat up is fine with me. I know how to give it a sanding and the krylon touch!

Yup. They're around, more common than MGB ones, but usually twice as costly.

Got my attention, Steve! Thought for a split second you were gonna say it was a GTV... I'd feel bad if I'd see one in restorable condition I couldn't drag home practically (couple hundred mile radius away, max.).

Kenny - have you been here yet:

Or here:

(I'm cleaning out "My Favorites" folder)

Oh, and Doc... The transmission in this thing is great... No cruchy 2nd gear or anything! Smooth as silk gearchanges up and down through the whole box.

They're tough. Takes a "special" talent to screw up those boxes. Mine was abused prior to my ownership, I've been driving it like this since '98. When I do up the "spare" box and install it, it'll never need another one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Do you know anything about how to fix the tacometer? It works, but starts at 3500 - the needle doesn't go below that - like it's been removed and put back on wrong or something.

I almost hate to say this, but: Yes, I do... take it out and send it to Nisonger. Be prepared to send about $150 as well. Sorry. If the one I removed had worked I'd send it to ya. Alas, it's bogus, too.

I've a mechanical one in my car, swapped out the non-working electronic one when I did the engine swap. Has O.P. gauge built in, put a VDO voltmeter in the center console hole.

Oh, and Tony... Yes, I have both those sites in my favorites now - thanks.

I'll look at the junk Graduate in my friend's yard to see if it has a tach, Kenny

Cool. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif I'm thinking of looking in this one... They can't be that complicated.

Oh, I drove the Alfa to work thismorning, and I didn't hear that noise again - yet. I'll keep listening though... And I'll poke around with the screwdriver when I'm off again thursday.

Good luck! Them things are nearly "hermetically sealed" compared to our Smith's gauges. The trim ring is rolled over the "can". Only way I've found to get 'em apart is to use a Dremel and notch the inner edge of the bezel at intervals to allow you to bend and fiddle it away. PITA!
