my 59 restoration-need some help

Hello,

I posted my project last week and but forgot to take some current pictures this weekend, however, I could use some help. I have the sheet metal work/welding repairs basically finished and the panels aligned. I worked the rocker panels so that they fit well. (boy was that a lesson in patience). My question(s) are this:

1. Once I fit the rockers, including modifying the front tab and modifying the rocker lines front and back to the door, again, requiring some modification, I used the original aluminum door trim to check door fit/gaps. The original door trim at the rockers is almost a right angle. The rocker panel and the bottom of the doors have an angle (slight) which seems to match the angle of the rocker. Makes sense to me and someone had responded to my earlier post that there was an angle (I apologize that I don't remember who that was, but thank you!) What is correct?? The trim will bend easily to fit and the gaps, etc. look very good. I just want to make sure all is good before I tack weld them.
2. What is the correct gap at the bottom of the door to rocker? Both sides seem to "fall into place" very well with what looks like a consistant and acceptable gap. However, I only have one shot at this and I do not want to mess it up.
Thank you in advance. This is a very helpful site and I look forward to driving you all crazy with questions.....

Doug, you want the top of the rocker at or near a right angle to the inner sill so the 90 on top of the al. threshold plate sits the thickness of your carpet only on top of the inner sill. There are #4 panhead screws at each end of the threshold plate that screw down into the top of the inner sill. Kevin

Thanks Brinkerhoff,

So I need to leave enough room at the top of the sill to allow for the carpet to go under the aluminum? I didn't think of that. Got the screws at the top. I am really glad that i asked and thank you for the reply.

Hey Doug,
I might have mentioned this to you before but if you join the Austin Healey Club USA there is a tremendous series of restoration articles done by Roger Moment and Gary Anderson on probabaly everything you will need to know. It will be the best $40 you have ever spent !! Whole series is available to download as pdf files so you don't need the back issues.
Good luck,
Mike

Thanks Mike. I have been a AH Club USA member for a year. In fact, you reminded me that I needed to renew and just took care of the $.

And I have read many of the articles. Very helpful. But with anything, there are still questions or maybe I missed some of the details.

thanks,
Doug
