My $500.00 Midget needs motor so

Well I decided to get off my rear and dig the motor out of my wifes Bugeye that seems to not smoke or knock. Hardest part about removing it "was starting" it is in pieces stuck in a corner of my shop and had trouble getting cherry picker position to remove. Anyway motor is removed from Bugeye and in the Midget partially. Front mounts installed.
I remove motor and trans together. A couple of questions

#1 Proper order to install front motor mounts, I got it done but ending with mount and frame mount loosly mounted on drivers side and the passenger side frame tree mounted on motor mount mounted to motor. with out a broom stick not sure I would have got it done

#2 Drive shaft should I use the one that was on Bugeye, seems like a no brainer but since the midget is a 67? I question.

#3 is installing drive shaft going to be a problem with trans installed
 
Yep you got the front motor mount install down pat. It is a small pain.

Either drive shaft will work fine.

Drive shaft install easy. Use painters tape and tape the front universal so it is in line with the shaft. Laying on back, lol, slide it up into the spline, might take one shot, might take awile. Forget the tape it will not cause a prob.

Make sure tranny is in gear when doing this, then you put it in nutral to install the rear bolts.
 
Don't I remember installing the driveshaft on the tranny first and then snaking it back through the tunnel when dropping the engine in place? It's been a lot of years.

I tried painters tape, but it was to flemsie, I got it from the general dollar. So I went with the if all eles fails use DUCT TAPE, as you can see I used a paint stick for support.

I left Charleytown in OCT74, and it's been that long since I've seen an engine sprayed with a can of silver paint again.

Good lord almighty........memory lane and all that effluent.

I got tired of trying to find the end of tranny, and also wondered how am I going to service the u joint grease fitting at the transmission. So I decided to make this a lot easier. Cut a hole in the bottom of car so U-joint can be serviced and so you can use your hand to guide drive shaft on tranny

I used my air grinder form the Tractor Supply and cut this hole, it is just big enough for my hand to reach into and grab driveshaft

.. As you can see I can get to the grease fitting now. I will clean up the edges of floor and prep them so it will not rust. I may even make a cover that has screws so it can be removed for service

it was the only can of paint I had available, it is brite. once I get the motor running I will clean with mean green and I am sure most of the paint will fail. but if not I will use black on generator and other parts to calm down
 
Buy $500 dollar car then sell both cars.
Buy bicycle to get to work and save much money.
Spend money you save to buy ticket to Las Vegas.

You guys do know that you can slip a hand in the shifter hole as the engine is going back in and guide the shaft into the tranny. It takes two folks but is a quick and dirty.

Oh yea there is a plug in the side of the tranny tunnel to greese that fitting.
 
I was wondering ablout that, previous owner of my car redid the carpets and glued carpet to tunnel so didn't want to rip it about looking for holes.
