We've all seen the new MX-5 but I discovered at the car show the other day that it looks like they've made a folding hard top. I didn't get to see it with the top up bu tit looks like a good idea.

Agreed. But I really didn't get a chance to look in the boot. But I think the regular MX-5 has a “dedicated” storage space behind the seats for the cloth top to fold into, that doesn’t really affect the boot. If that’s the case with the hard top folder, it seems like a lot of wasted space with the top up.

My sister is looking at getting the new G6 (GT preferably) with the folding hard top. Looking at that car's boot I was surprised at how much space still remains even with the top down. Problem is you probably don’t want to load up the trunk, then fold the top away, because the back wall expands with the top down and you might break something.

Other than the added security I really don't see any advantage to the hard top.

Not on the cars I've seen. the hard top is much, much thicker and does not roll up. The glass has to stay in one piece also, and it usually isn't flat.

If Mazda has somehow overcome this then kudos to them! Maybe they made the rear deck taller to accommodate it?

The hard top does not take up any more trunk space than the convertible, fits in the same space and it goes up or down in 12 seconds. It is a really neat piece of kit. I had one for a week last September, and really liked it. A lot of fun to drive, if I did not already have the Lotus, I would consider buying one

I like it... the video shows it's pretty quick too.

Kenny, YOU like anything whut's got a contact patch!

How many other cars have a big letter Y all by itself onna hood? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

The PRHT is very cool. I'd be willing to trade both of my convertibles for one of them.

I like the fact that they have allowed for storing the old bag in the boot!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
