I’ve got a couple of wire wheels with worn splines and before I purchased I wanted to ask all the knowledgeable people here. I’m looking at MWS brand of painted wires from Rimmers, but I haven’t purchased from them in a long time. I’ve also looked at Dayton wires, but they are $$$ more than the MWS which are made in India. I have a set of older MWS wires on a 1970 MGB and they are very true, balance well and ride great. Has anyone had experience buying wire wheels from Rimmers? They have the best price ($184.00) and relatively inexpensive shipping. My other option is buying used from Marv, but I’m inclined to go with new.

I bought a set of 60 spoke chrome wheels from Rimmers about a year ago. More than satisfied with them. Took very little weights to balance them, and run very smooth. I used a bubble balancer and balanced them myself.

I purchased a set of 5 MWS 48-spoke wire wheels in January, 2017 on the advice and recommendation of Alan Hendrix of Hendrix Wire Wheel Service. I purchased them from Moss on sale at the time and had them shipped to Hendrix, where they mounted my tires, shaved them true, balanced and tuned the wire wheels. The MWS wire wheels are identical to the original TR wires, and Alan said they recommended them over the Dayton wire wheels, for cost and quality control. It's my understanding that while the wheel parts are manufactured in India, they are assembled in the UK.

I am very happy with the MWS wire wheels.
 
I have four, and drove them down to Hendrix Wire Wheels in North Carolina with the new tires. The impact of their truing is nothing short of amazing! You should consider shipping them direct to him.
BTW, make sure you buy new hubs, lest you ruin your new wheels’ splines!

Thanks everyone! My tires are currently mounted and only after putting the car on the lift to check every nut, bolt, zerk and seam did I discover more play than I liked in the drivers side front wheel. The hubs look really good, but hubs are cheap and the wire wheels are a decent price inclusive of shipping from the UK. I have a local tire store that I’ve done business with for years and they have adapters for wire wheels (they did the MGB) and I trust them. It’s only 1, possibly 2 wheels that I need to change out depending on how much I trust the spare. I was really hoping that these wheels had a good reputation!

I also had a set of MWS wires drop shipped from Moss to Hendrix on their recommendation. Their mounting, balancing and shaving procedure is nothing short of incredible. The wheels are also re-trued. They tighten the tolerances. Worth every dollar they charge. Silky smooth up to indecent speeds.
 
I tried to order the wheels from Rimmers, but their system would not process the order. I emailed for help and got a response, but they have no other way to place an order. Ended up ordering from Moss and should have them in a couple of days.
