TR6 Muffler suggestions?

My muffler is finally shot. Any recommendations on a source for a new one? It seems like the only type being sold are the stainless steel systems. I'm not sure that I have a choice anyway, but how long do stainless hold up compared to regular steel mufflers?

My regular mild steel exhaust on my TR4A has lasted over 14 years. Mind you, the car is stored inside and never driven in rain or in winter. At that rate, I would expect a SS system to last longer than me!

My mild steel stock one has been on my 6 since I bought it in 1998, so they last well with the limited driving most cars get. I would likely buy stainless just 'cause you can and I like look of the twin exhaust on the sport systems, but some people have reported difficulties in getting good seals at joints with stainless. Cheers, Mike

Think Keven uses it as a daily.
Just take it to your fav muffler shop.
Have them put something on.
Ask them NOT to weld it on
Make it removable

Hey ich, I just replaced my stock muffler which looks to be in perfect working order. It is not SS and pretty sure it is a replacement muffler. Freight may be a killer, but it's yours for $50 +shipping.

Healeyz, I appreciate the offer, but I have a 69. It only has one exhaust pipe coming into it. I think the 69-71 are different that way from the rest of the 6s. Is the main thing that rots out a muffler moisture? I keep my car garaged, but we are normally near 100% humidity here. Does anyone even know if they make stock mufflers out of steel anymore?

ichthos, I added the TR4 rear "Y" pipe and got a shop to bend it down some and added the TR4 mufflers and what a great sound. My is a '70.
