I don't know what to expect - but I am only getting 17 to 18 MPG in my 1275. Not sure what I should get -- air filters have only 3500 miles. Idle is a little high but only ~ 1500.

What does the rest of you get (& am I crazy for caring - it's not like I'm going to stop driving it).

That seems a little on the low side. At one time I was getting 26 mpg, but always felt like it could do better.
What type of driving are you doing?
 
Mostly City. Will be taking it on some extended trip sthis summer as we thaw out & dry up.
 
How do your plugs look?
 
BTW, Are you going to the Dayton Show this year?
 
yea, I typically get around 25 in town with my 1500. That's with a lead foot too!

I must mention I've noticed a decrease in mileage in all my vehicles since they started that ethanol mix earlier this summer....

Your car is very similar to mine. 64, 1100 motor. Mine has a Datsun 5 speed and 422 gears. Last summer on a trip from home to the Mid Ohio Vintage race, I got 40 MPG. Around town I would guess at mid to high 30s. I have never checked it around town. I may be a little high as I am not sure how accurate my speedometer is. But it should be pretty close. On the trip I ran along with my friend in his 100-4 and we both ran at 60 mph on the speedo and we stayed righ together.

George, with a bone stock 1275, 67,000 miles on it, I average about 28. That's with the stock '72 3.90 rear gear, 175-70 tires. And, I drive it like I stole it.

Su's will beat a weber, i get a pretty consistent 23-26. The 3.7 rear i had got more like 28-32.

Plugs are pretty black. On top of that -- 3500 miles (or so) -- kinda short time to get that black.

Sounds as if I am running richer than I thought -- obviously I am no carb expert. Would you all agree to that conclusion.

Rich carbs - black / fouling of the plugs - more gas used and wasted. Kinda thought I should be in high 20's w/o too much difficulty (higher would be nice).

I've always used MPG as a sign of a healthy car -- something going bad -- more strain on engine and more gas being used. At least it sounds good.

Would you agree or anything else to look at ?

What method do you use to set your mixture and timing?
 
Timng: Timing Light

Mixture: Help of a friend. We did it when cold. Sometimes sticks at a light. Going to look @ carb issues.
 
Driving style also affects mileage. Some people load up the engine by trying to drive too slow in the selected gear, or shift too early (better to shift a little late). Excessive downshifting can also be detrimental to the mileage. Lastly, are you sure your odometer is correct and there are no fuel leaks?
 
Good thing to check (Odometer). I think tank is OK (no fumes in my garage.

My mileage seems high! I'm getting around 33 mpg driving around town and actually recorded a 38 on a recent highway trip. I've been meaning to check my odometer!
 
Kind of on the subject--
Back in '76 I had a '64 1100 Sprite and usually got around 24MPG around town. Just as a test of the 55MPH law I took a drive from San Diego to Yuma, Az (160 miles) and STAYED at 55 MPH. To my very great surprise I used 3.8 gallons of gas total (around 42 MPG). The trip was really boring and comming home I did around 70 and got 26 MPG, it was worth the extra gas but proved to me that unfortunately they were right.
