Mounting position for gear reduction starter

Hi All,

I just received my new gear reduction starter to replace my fading original. Has anyone who has installed one (by car is a 4A) found any benefit in changing the orientation? It looks like it will be no trouble to fit the way it was shipped, but I haven't installed it yet. I'm still amazed that this little thing is going to replace the stock monster!

I put one on my TR3A, and it fit just fine with the orientation as I received it. Didn't bother trying to "improve" it, just bolted it up and went for a drive. Worked great, only downside IMO was that the engine no longer sounded like a TRactor motor when cranking /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

More like a jet engine being spun by it's starter.

Since my old solenoid was dubious, but I wasn't sure the original start switch would carry the extra current of the new solenoid, I wired the starter motor directly to the battery and used the old solenoid to switch power to the new solenoid.
