Motor Mounts

Both of my motor mounts have completely seperated, after many miles of use (>100,000?). From some of what I have seen on the internet, it is not unusual to have a brand new motor mount fail shortly after installtion. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Are there any prefered sources?

Bob

With that kind of performance you may want to invest in a used set from a lower mileage same year vehicle. You may find that unless a vendor advertises that they have their version custom produced to their spec that many of the places you hav efound to purchase may actually buy from same sources for resale. It's not like we're dealing with teh factory spitting these out anymore. Although with NOS, if any are available, the chances are they were produced with possibly better material but rubber deteriorates over time and a 1967 NOS mount might separate faster than a brand new Chinese made item. I would stick with a mojor vendor that has some type of parts warranty.

Try the heavy duty mounts. I put those in on my 75 in 2005 and haven't had any issues with them infact they still look like new. Left side is a royal pitb to replace.

I now have the parts and have lined up a motor lift. Having looked closely at the task, I would concur with you that the LH side IS a royal PITB. I am not sure that the RH is a whole lot better. Do you have any tips regarding, perhaps, sequence, how to attach the mount to the body (especially without removing the steering rack), etc. It has been too long since I have done this, but I feel certain that the only time I removed the rack was to install a new one, not to replace the mounts. ANY advice would be very helpful, the more detail the better. This is a 79B.

Thanks,
Bob

Find a real skinny flexible guy and have him do it from undernieth the car lots of 1/16th turns of the wrench. A lot of the time people remove the steering rack to make the lh side bearable but you can do it without removing it but the in the end the time is about the same for both but the frustration level is much less with the rack gone.

One thing is for sure I'd rather do 12 cb engine mounts than 1 rb engine mount.

Thanks.

First of all, what does cb and rb stand for?

What is the sequence? Do I secure the mounting bracket to the mount, then the mount to the body, then lower the engine and secure the bracket to the engine?

Bob

Motor mounts to the engine first get them seated in the slots then secure the tranny crossmember then do the engine mounts to the body and then beer

I have a question on the motor mounts for a 78 MGB. This is the round type. The bolt that goes to the chasis is not in the center. My guess is that it goes out of center on the down side? By the way, I could use some pictures of the alternator, smog pump mounts if anyone has them. I had friends help take this engine apart and they forgot the pictures in their eagerness.

thank you

Jerry
