Motor Mount Question

Quick dumb question(s) on motor mounts: They are 'handed'. Why? Must be a subtile angle of the engine thing that I don't immediately see visually.
And - LH motor mount means left side of car as viewed from drivers seat?

Thanks

Left means "left-side" of the car. In the USA our drivers seats are usually on the left-side of the car but we occasionally see an imported car with the drivers seat on the right side. There are left and right "drivers seats"(some countries still drive on the wrong side of the road).(I'm sure I'll hear some flak on this from "Oz" & "UK")

Well, there's a lot more than I thought! At least they drive on the right-hand side on the "ice roads" in Antarctica, or should I say at least they did when I was there.

Yes, the engine angles back a bit in the engine bay so the mounts are handed. Interestingly the early sixes had instead engine mounts that had slightly diagonally enlongated holes where they bolt to the sides of the block so were not "handed" but were adjusted to suit the angle of the engine when in position in the car.

Thanks always wondered why they did that.--Keoke
