Moss Trunnions

Hello

I have a new R/H trunnion for my TR4 which I got from Moss. I seem to be unable to tighten the thrust bearings enough to get seal. Applying even more force resulted in a stripped nut. Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with these Moss trunnions?

Is the outer locking washer seating itself onto the trunnion? Normally if it seats you would have no problem tightening everything up.

I think I had the opposite problem, it was related to the thrust washer thicknesses being too thin (for some reason from TRF)- in my case I replaced them with Moss's which were thicker.


Can you disassemble the parts at all at this point? If you have the original parts that you pulled you could check thicknesses of the washers for comparison, as well as the trunnion itself.

I have rebuild kit tucked away if you get into trouble and need a quick part.

You do realize that you have to tighten both sides, right ? Otherwise the pin just pulls through the casting.

Namely fixed pin in TR3-4 range (0 degree castor variety for TR3-early 4, later 4 had 4 degree). From 4a onwards the trunnion had the thru-bolt design. The other change is the zerk is on the bottom of the trunnion for TR3-4, then the zerk was put right into the vertical link for later cars.

I never directly compared those trunnions, but the later style trunnion has the appeal of having a replaceable bolt - I have a couple of old TR4 trunnions that are fine except for the pin. For a Christmas gift wish it would be great to have a vendor marry the two designs.

Sorry, my mistake. I went by the pictures in the Moss catalog that I linked to above.
