The 61 Plus 4 is very close to the point of going to the State of Kansas inspection station . They will lose their MINDS
when they see the "VIN" Four digits stamped onto the crossmember, under the passenger seat. Pretty sure they will
insist on affixing a state VIN plate .It will be a clown show, so I plan to bring popcorn, wish me luck.

In Oklahoma I've never had a problem with the DMV accepting a serial number in place of a VIN. I currently have two registered with the state that have six digit serial numbers on the Titles.

The Morgan is four digits only. Stamped into the frame. No plates/plaques. Fun for the inspection
Nazi's. I have had in the past some real "tiffs" with over zealous prigs. Hench the procrastination.

Sometimes it helps to take owner's manuals & shop manuals
if there's information on that in them.

You assume trolls can read or apply logic. I saw them fail a 67 BJ8 for a wrong screw in a commision
plate. Then when told where to inspect the numbers on the frame, refuse to take off a wheel to see it.
Had a similar experience with a Sunbeam Tiger.
The lesson here is to tread carefully when re-installing a commision plate after painting.

and that is crazy, here in the UK they were originaly screwed, then went to pop rivets, now they are just stuck on the A post
with a metal tag in the windscreen black out.
But they recognise historical vehicles can never comply to current Regs, and only need be as good as the original manufacturing.
Over 40 years old they do not even have to be inspected for road worthyness, Not sure thats is a good thing though.

Well here in Kansas it is absolutely NOT about safety it is only a title/vin# verification
I will trailer it down to the station, where ZERO things related to safety will be looked at.
This "inspection" is utterly useless on a car older than 1985 as the system does not process
numbers with fewer than 17 digits. If the car had been stolen in the dim past, it would take an archival
search of a Federal Data base lasting weeks. State Data Bases go back 10 years modern cars only .
Eventually I will pay my 20$ and get a little pink paper that will let me get the title I have registered
in my name at last.

Fingers crossed MD all goes well and you get that piece of pink paper.
(Grease just popped into my head. "Were racing for pinks"). Love that film.

Glad it went smoother than you expected.

It all went way smooth . They looked at the title from 1972. Looked at the 4 digits on the x member.
Handed me the paper. I was back home in 30 minutes. Now for the County Treasures office to buy a tag!
Mad dog
That’s quicker than a visit to the grocery store! If only it worked that way in California… Congratulations!

Well it seems that the state of Kansas IS quite insane. I got a call from the county license offices and the state had refused the Vin
inspection.????? WTF you might ask, well they wanted "confidential" VIN inspection. That is to say, on MOST cars there is a hard
to find SECRETE number hidden on the frame. They wanted the car to go back to the KHP for reinspection and have them fill out
a sacred form stating that the VIN was a match to the "plate".
The KHP even got a laugh out of this, since they had already done exactly this, as the Morgan has ONLY a frame # and no plate at all.
So they filled out the form attesting to this and I got my title a few days later.
The real issue was the 4 digit serial # Morgan has on the older cars.Turns out trailers use a 4 digit # too so they thought it was a
trailer???
Looking forward to getting on the road this spring !! If the upholstery guys finish the seats...
Mad dog

The wiring is now completed and IF the upholstery shop will ever finish the seat back, I will finish up the interior
and be ready to drive this spring. No freakin idea where to mount seat belts that might be strong enough in a crash.
There is little to nothing in the tunnel area of any real structural substance, but I think I have an idea.

Have you considered reinforcing the frame with a 4x4 under the seats, then you could mount lap belts to that. :ROFLMAO:
