Morgan questions.....

Hi Guys,
Tomorrow I'm going to look at a '47 Morgan. While I've been into Britmobiles for a long time, I've never owned or had access to one of these. Other than the usual issues when looking at any old car is there anything specific to this model I should be aware of? I know about the wood issues too, so no cracks about termites!

Are parts available for these?

Steve, you should be able to find parts for any Morgan, even a new chassis. As you mentioned, there is a lot of wood in the frame, which makes it a major issue if there's some rot there. That really is the biggest thing to watch for.

Morgans haven't changed much over the years and there is excellent factory support for their older cars. If the price is right, go for it!

A '47 would be a series I 4/4, likely with the standard special engine. Parts will be hard to find for the engine, gearbox, brakes, etc..... Parts for the body, wheels, interior, gauges, weather equipment, will be impossible to find.

This would be one of the more challenging Morgans to keep on the road -- but very, very cool. Off the top of my head there were only about 800 series I's made over 12 years. (1938-1950, minus the war)

For the record, I lost my Mog shop. Olde World Restorations lost its lease.... last nail in the coffin, so to speak. I'm happy to provide insight, but I no longer sell parts or perform repairs / restorations. On the brighter side, I start a new job on Monday (with a real paycheck!!!!)

Actually, the better half of Olde World (Penny Bates) managed to stash the remnants and is continuing to sell parts, albeit from a very disorganised barn.
