More trouble with back lights

At the suggestion of another friend, I decided to check the operation of the lighting switch in the dashboard.

I took it out and tested it in each position. In the middle, there was no continuity, and at the bottom, there was continuity on both places. This told me that, while the parking lights might not work by themselves, they and the taillights should come on when the headlights are on.

I then decided to check the continuity of the red/green wires at the switch to the back of the car. Continuity was there.

But there's a rub. There was also continuity from the red/green wire at the switch to the green/purple brake light wire in the trunk. Does this mean that there could be a short somewhere? I'm trying to get a better look at the connections on the front lights. It seems like there could be trouble there.

Sorry to be asking so many questions. It's just frustrating when one thing after the other doesn't solve the problem, and it doesn't seem that the trouble should be there in the first place.

Thank you,

Keep tracing.... you'll find the culprit! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Are you doing this with the bulbs IN the sockets? I'd be for pulling all bulbs out and just checking PURE wiring continuity FIRST. Right down to pulling the connectors at the bulkhead to isolate front and back harnesses. Not a pleasant task, but you're in it now, so may as well do it all the way right ONCE.

Just my opinion, I'm not there.

I get to try n figure out a few wiring gremlins on my alfa tomorrow. Windshield wipers and replacing a window motor. I also have something tony cut out from under the dash that I need to take a picture of to see if Doc knows what it is.
