More from our leader at the Lake of the Ozarks.

I am now back from my whirlwind trip to Lake of the Ozarks and wanted to share some info with you all. I'd be grateful for any input you can provide...

Autocross - The Walmart parking lots weren't available but I found an area of the Lake of the Ozarks State Park (Pa He Tsi) which looks like it may work. Have passed that info on to the autocross team (Rodger, David & Ron).

Panoramic Picture - The area at Natural Springs in Ha Ha Tonka State Park looks perfect. I took a short move and am sending it to Tony Lipari, our BE owner photographer in Kansas City. The backdrop is part
of the lake and a sheer cliff on the opposite shore. It is beautiful.

Car Show - Jack, Frank and I looked at an area in the Lake of the Ozarks State Park about 10 miles from the hotel. Lots of trees for shade...etc. However, talking with the head of the parks yesterday morning, he showed me another very similar area only about a mile from the hotel and in the same portion of the park where the autocross will
be! They are again willing to block it off for us to use for a rental fee. We will also have to have some insurance and I am working on that
now. The BBQ people have served in that area before so the lunch should also be no problem.

Police - Lt. Davis of the Osage Beach Police is very friendly and they are looking forward to our event. They will help as needed. We may need a city permit or two and he will help there too.

LotO CVB - Much help from Tim & Mary Jo!! They are happy to help pull things together with maps, discount coupons for the Premium Outlet Mall stores (don't forget to give the wife your credit cards ;-) and many other things.

Hotel - The hotel people are very excited. We are already over half way to our goal of room usage during the event and Denise thinks we even have a few folks from outside the country with reservations! The hotel says no other group has started filling the hotel this quickly and they are already talking with nearby hotels for spill-over! This
event is shaping up to be HUGE! Many thanks to those of you who have pre-registered. We are going to start needing some money to cover planning expenses. (Insurance...etc!!)

As discussed with Frank via phone Tuesday evening, I looked into several of the area Go Kart tracks. We need to come up with some fun ideas for the LotO Spridgets Grand Prix... ;-) Maybe Sprite owners vs Midget owners - winner take all!!

I have some pictures of the autocross area, the car show area, and the panoramic picture area. I will get them up online soon for everyone to check out.

Road Tours - After nearly 500 miles of madcap driving around central and southern Missouri, and after talking to the organizers of the road tours of a recent bike fest there, I realized that it will be more fun
for everyone if we just provide locations to visit and a map. Frank put it perfectly, "There are *NO* bad roads!" No matter where you go there are exciting roads to drive. I took a couple of pics of some of the curvy bits for people to salivate over and will also put those up, for public viewing. Going into Ha Ha Tonka State Park on "D" highway I even found a reverse camber hairpin turn marked with a recommended "10 mph"!! They mean it too!! Much faster and you'll get up close and personal with some oak trees!

Anyway, at present I have two areas for winery visits. A segment of old Highway 66 (Get your kicks on the mother road). Bonnots Mill and the town of "Frankenstein" (appropriate for Halloween, don't you think?). A great breakfast drive, tours of area caves, a great all day lunch drive into north Arkansas, and a visit to Big Dick's place (more on that later ;-)
There will be big name entertainment playing at "Horny Toad" while we are there. Don't know who yet, but should by January or February when all the new schedules come out for 2008. At that time we will do a mailing to everyone who has pre-registered.

Time to start talking it up out there!

Cheers!!
