1. Anyone have much success using a product called "Rust-Mort"? Any tips on using it?

2. Also, after chipping away at the loose paint on the bottom of my radiator housing, I notice that the steel is orange in color. Is that a rust residue, or is the steel down there copper?
 
Rust-Mort is a rust converter, when I used it on an old 122S Volvo I had (to take care of a very rusty battery box) it worked really well. Just be sure you follow the instructions on the bottle and remove all loose rust and degrease prior to applying it. Allow to dry and then either rinse the excess off or wipe with a moist rag. Don't get it on any painted surface because it will discolor it. If the "bottom of the radiator housing" you refer to is the radiator tank, yes it is made of brass, be very carefull with your chipping, if you are talking about the lower radiator flak shield then you have rusty steel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif
 
The rust film I had was really on the surface only, and then very slight. Should I just wipe the whole area with a moist cloth since I've clearly coated areas that had no rust--there were feathered areas, some streaked areas. It would have been hard to touch just the "rust" when I brushed Rust-Mort on the frame. Thanks for the help.
 
Yes, after the Rust-Mort has dried you will notice some crystals left behind, this is what you want to wipe off. A moist cloth/rag should be good enough to remove this. You should paint the areas treated afterwards. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
