The pump on the left is from Moss, the pump on the right is also Moss I suspect, but look what someone, I think Hap did to the ears to clear the cover plate on the engine backing plate.

The right pump is considerbly smaller in diameter where it extends into the can. Without the engine out I can not confirm yet but think this must be the solution to makeing it fit.

What I see there (in your pix) is a fix that Moss or the supplier did. I have ordered some pumps from Moss that came non-milled and then some time (three-four months) later they came milled. The casting and the pump is the same.

Evidently some (or enough) folks complained that there wasnt enuff DUST CAN clearance when using the small can and thus the milled sides.

The larger issue is that the register outside diameter of that pump is reportedly too large for the case inside diameter register by about .040". Now this could have been the earlier pump that had the non milled sides and MIGHT have been fixed also....(maybe).

The old Concentric brand pump fit either the small or the large backplate hole...but that was a whole different design pump than what is availiable now (the ones in your pix) and wasnt an issue. A superior design pump that the rear cover wouldnt distort as there was no back cover.
 
Ahhh, appreciate the comments and information Jerry. A bit of knowledge goes a long way. I feel a lot better now.

One of these days I think I will have Tony send the wrong one back, next time I see him in any case. It surely is of no use as it is.
