1972, IIRC. John Sheally in his Triumph, getting ready to run an autocross in Newport News, VA. He was a press photog for the Virginian-Pilot, in Suffolk, VA. The Europa in background was red and owned by a fellow from England.

At age seventeen, an aspirant Lotus owner (note the reverent space between hand and car). Took another five years before I found the Elan, in Virginia. I Autocrossed the MGB and the English guy with the Europa would only smile and wave. After I'd shown up in the Elan he got chummy. :p

F-106. Hard landing bounced it from the runway pavement into soft ground. Sheared off the landing gear, leaving all three stuck into terra firma a couple hundred feet behind the airframe.

Ouch. I'd bet the insurance company totalled it.

I know the Lt. Colonel jock driving it was grounded. Permanently. He'd "landed" a couple feet above the runway one too many times.

That'll buff out - for a couple hundred thousand! Not surprised he was grounded.

In the right side of that crash shot, the two guys there were co-workers of mine. Still camera man and a MoPiccer with "sticks" and an Arriflex..."To Document the Air Force Mission." Even the not-so-nice parts.

Motion Picture Photog.

And sound men were referred to as "hum-heads." :p
