More fuel for the gasoline debate

Isn't this the foundation for just about EVERY sci-fi movie where a scientist creates a genetically mutated organism to save humanity?

And we know the ending - it runs amok and destroys the world?

I heard of this someplace a while ago. Can't recall where but it made sense to me. I'd just hate to think what'd happen if th' li'l beasties got loose... "Tarpit Earth"?!?!

Better load up the military with a buttload of anti-bacterial cream! Trade in flamethrowers for garden sprayers.

Instead of putting a tiger in your tank, you can put a bug in your tank...

:nonod:

Sounds tooooo easy. If's its that easy, it doesn't work.

CYNIC!! :smirk:

......tailpipe??!!

Adds a new meaning to passing gas.

That was a very interesting article! In todays environment, we also have to look at the cost-effectiveness of fuels besides their environmental impact! Some kind of balance will have to prevail (Diesels, at tody's prices are not the cost-effective vehicles that everyone once thought!!).

Reminds me of this Blue Diamond Almond commercial...

100 miles a day is all we ask

Believe it or not, during WWII there were some vehicles that ran off of coal gas down in the Pacific islands. They collected the gas generated by smoldering coal in a container mounted in the rear and piped it to the engine somehow. It could give the wife something to do while on a trip. Shoveling coal.

Paul,

When I was kid I remember the coke ovens cooking soft coal.
They collected the gas that came off and used it for something.
Maybe steet lamps? Right at the end of the era so my memories are kinda dim on that one.

I well remember the smells-yuck!!

The coal-gas power was also used quite a bit in France during WW II, as well as methane gas!!

The Third Reich resorted to methane in the end.

...Something to do with Polesti as I recall...

I just got this email, and thought this thread was an appropriate place for it!! :jester:

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?
This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.
Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ... $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ..........$9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ..... $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ......... $10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ...... $33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ....... . $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon
And this is the REAL KICKER...
Evian water 9 oz $1.49..$21.19 per gallon! $21.19 for WATER and the buyers don't even know the source (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)
Ever wonder why printers are so cheap? So they have you hooked for the ink. Someone calculated the cost of the ink at...............(you won't believe it....but it is true........) $5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars) So, the next time you're at the pump,be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink!
Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump...
And - If you don't pass this along to at least one person, Your muffler will fall off!! Okay, your muffler won't really fall off...but, you might run out of toilet paper
