Ok, THIS is really nice. Not too many things I can spot that are not correct unless you want to get really picky. The top should be vinyl, not canvas (I'm got a Canvas Top too, which is wrong but looks 100% better). The dash top is of the thicker type used in later cars. Being an early 3.8, the dash top should be much thinner. The air filter canister should be silver hammer-finish, not black, but otherwise it is a really nice car and even looks like it has original blue Girling shocks and the correct period Lucas battery and correct battery cables! Even the spark plug wire are routed correctly, but on this early model, I think the Spark plug connectors are of the newer Series 1 type (would be correct for my 67)

SPARK PLUG CAPS
1st style - Cap with circular "Champion" lettering on top and a dot in center

FILTER CANISTER
Black on 3.8s & early 4.2s then changed to a hammertone silver finish - engine number change point unknown

DASH TOP
Vinyl covered - as many as 1000 of the first cars had thinner dash tops (H – Pg. 56)
Note: The pattern change from dot to cross hatch on the dash, finisher panel, and prop shaft cover occurred
at the same time on all pieces

Right from the JCNA Judging Guide.

That's not a car: it's a work of art.

Stunning restoration, by moneybags!

Hi Folks,

Just driving thru.

Man; To think, Not too long ago (4yrs), I had VIN # 875190 (Flat Floors, Welded Louvres and Side Bonnet Locks)!

Well; I still do have my "Hert. Cert" Framed & Hanging in my Family Room to remind me "What I jerk I was to sell that to someone in Rome, Italy"!!

A-ha, so the early cars did have a black canister. One thing is for sure, this is a really nice example. Now where did I leave that extra $115k laying around?

Probably exactly where I left the money to get my Jag painted.....

Hey, if you have a concours guide, would you be able to tell me all the parts that should correctly be cad plated? I'm going to be sending a few parts off and might include some others if I can determine what a is supposed to be plated in this way.

don't need it...
just 24K down
and 84 easy monthly payments of only $1488

Oh well then! As long as they're going to make it affordable!

I'll tell you a little story.
I'd had my Jag like 8 weeks, been a member of JCNA for like 6 weeks, downloaded the MK2 Judging Guide and went ballistic.

I've been involved in Early Ford Judging and show-car building, like to think I know 49-51 Fords pretty good (in fact, shouted the author of the "bible" to parade rest, and I was 100% correct on that specific issue), and figured I would come "up to speed" on Jags.

When the Guide says "all" MK2's shall have:
Twin exhaust, with two mufflers, twin outpipes with chrome tips, a one-piece cast gray fibreglass fan shroud, a "made in England" tag, "Jaguar" and displacement script on the boot lid, one piece cast aluminium intake with twin SUs, Brake Fluid Reservoir mounted on a tubular standoff inside the left wing, and the list goes on......

2.4L RHD MK2's have single exhaust with no chrome tip.
Brake reservoir is on a flat bracket inside the RIGHT wing.
The only "script" on the boot lid of a 2.4 is the "MK2".
There IS no fan shroud on a 2.4.....there is a flat metal finger shield on top only.
Cars sold in England don't have "Made in England" tags.
2.4's have a two-piece cast aluminium intake with twin SOLEX downdraughts.

Read the appendix in the MK2 Judging Guide.

THAT was FUN.

Nobody thought to include A) RHD cars, and B) 2.4L engines.

Oh, one more....

All MK2's shall have:
Air cleaner assembly (twin horn) painted medium hammer tone silver with rubber boot seal

connecting it to the polished cast aluminum carburetor air intake.

Except 2.4L which is cast aluminium horn, top, and BLACK oil bath body.

INTAKE MANIFOLD

One piece aluminum, polished on top surface only, Otter switch with single blade connector,

held by 3 hex bolts on thermostat housing.

2.4L had two piece, and manual choke, hence no otter switch.
