Been mucking about trying to get the carbs set up on the car.I'm a bit out of practice which does not help but still cannot get them right.
What I've done so far, removed the tops and cleaned inside them, established the have they same needles and that the needles are set correctly. Both dropping freely into the jets.
Filled them both with the same measured quantity of damper oil and both have a pretty close feel in terms of resistence.
I've slackened off the clamping bolts on the throttle spindle interconnection so both carbs work independently, unfortunatley I cannot disconnect the jet control interconnection (HS type carbs)as someone at some time has fitted in a permanent brazed rod between the two, I'm thinking this may be the cause of my problems.
I cannot seem to get an even idle or I cannot get an appropriate idle speed. The car will be smooth at just over 1,000 rpm which I think is too fast but if I try to bring it down to around 750-800 it will be uneven.
I cannot seem to get an even 'hiss' from both carbs and to achieve that I have to bring one up a lot more on the idle screw then the other by which time my idle speed has gone too high again.. I'm wondering if I have an air leak somewhere.
I can pull on the chokes easily by hand at the carbs them selves but by choke cable it's very hard, the cable is new and free running so the problem is not there.
I'm thinking I should disconnect the jet inconnection permanently and just use choke on one carb for starting.
I've still to check the float levels but it's midnight here now and gotta consider the neighbours.
If anyone can suggest some other tricks I can try let me know, otherwise I'll have to pull the carbs completley and send them away for a reco.
Mike
