Modern Jack for a BJ7

After reading the post on jacks and tools, I decided to ask the experts what kind of modern jack can be used to lift the BJ7 in a road side emergency. With a flat tire, as all Healey owners know, there is next to no clearance between the frame and the ground. All suggestions appreciated.

I use and carry a scissor jack, although you rarely find them in the auto parts stores any more. It is compact and fits nicely to the left of the spare tire in the fender well of my BJ8. In the event of a flat tire, however, it may not fit under the car without driving the flat tire up on to something like a small piece of 2 X 4.
 
Hi Ray, Find the lowest scissor jack you can and carry at least a short 2 X 4 to drive up on.---Fwiw---Keoke

Keoke - great idea. Don't most of them have a hook, or some such appurtenance on the top?
 
Some do Dar100.But the one I have has a neat little saddle on the top and the raising mechanism fits a 3/8" socket wrench extension.I bought a few cheap ones and pack them with the jack.It is of Asian decent but there are no markings to define which one.Some gratious soul left it on the curb in front of my house.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Once my basketcase hits the road I'll know not only to have a jack but to have something to "pre-jack" it too.

I found a beaut scissor jack at my local wrecker in the boot of a Nissan 280ZX. I don't think it had ever been used! It has a little saddle at the top & I made a rubber seat to avoid scratching the chassis paint. The handle is long enough for the job. I got the whole tool kit from the Nissan which included chocks for the wheels. I am told that the later 300ZX has an alloy jack!
 
I use a Honda jack. It measures 3" 1/4" when compressed.
Shown also are the other two Honda pieces used with the jack.
 
Slick! Now I know, Nissan, or Honda. Plus the tool kit. Alloy! Nice!
